Your First Google Adwords ad

This is a step by step guide on how to set up a Google Adwords ad for your Home Value Leads site.

Lets get started...

First things first, you will not be able to set up a google ad if you are using a sub domain on our domain. i.e. - If you plan on setting up a google ad, then you should use your own domain name for your HVL site.  You can add your custom domain here

After you have switched your domain to your own, then you can start following the following tutorial.

  1. Sign into Google or gmail and then go to
  2. If you never used adwords before, complete the wizard asking for your email, website, company size and hit next.

Creating your first campaign

You will come to a screen that looks like this.

Google AdWords- campaigns

Budget - Put in what you can afford to spend.

Location - Select ONE city, if you want to target people in multiple cities, then set up multiple ads, one city per ad.

Networks - un check display network so your ads only show up on search.

Keywords - Copy and paste in the following Keywords one at a time and include the + and/or " symbols

  • +home +value
  • +house +value
  • "how much is my house worth"
  • "property values"
  • "real estate value"
  • "market value"
  • "what is my house worth"

Set your bid - Let google adwords set the bid to begin with.

And finally you will need to create your ad copy.

We have used the following on a number of accounts and it works great. Replace with the domain you are using for your HVL site. Replace /city with the city you are targeting (remember one city per ad). If the city has two words then use a hyphen i.e.

Save, and hit next to add your billing information.

To help comply with Adwords TOS, it is best to display your name, company, and contact info in the footer of your HVL site. You can do this by editing your profile and ticking the box that says "show in copyright" for all fields. Turn on the content pages and add some copy to each page.

If you would like us to set this up for you, we can, just email us at Also, email if you have advanced questions that are not covered here or if you would like help troubleshooting/fine tuning the ads you set up.

You may have already done this, but if not, we recommend you upload a custom background image for each of the cities you set up an ad for by using dynamic cities.
